There's nothing quite like duking it out with a gamer playing from the other side of the world, or teaming up with a complete stranger to complete quests, as if you have known each other for years. The best part is, you don't need to spend hundreds a month to get your Massive Multiplayer Online fix. In fact, you can experience all the joys of an MMO without dropping a single dime. Here are the top three free Massive Multiplayer Online games available today.

The Lord of the Rings Online—is the Lord of the Rings, online, and free, enough said. It's produced by Warner Bros as a free online interactive video game. LotR Online is great for both solo and cooperative play, and the players can follow their own storyline or create a fellowship to battle Orcs, Wights, and Balrogs as they journey to defeat the Dark Lord Sauron. The user can choose from four different races: man, elf, dwarf, or hobbit; there are also a variety of classes for your character, from burglar to lore-master to warden. Lord of the Rings Online also has cinematic cut scenes to immerse you further into the world of Middle Earth as the story progresses. Users can opt for a paid VIP membership or pay for specialties such as extra gear in the online store, but these are not necessary. Lord of the Rings Online is the only free game based on actual Tolkien characters. One word review—epic, in every sense of the word.

DarkEden was the first horror MMORPG. Originally developed in Korea, it takes place in the fictional country of Eslania and revolves around the eternal struggle between humans and vampires. The game is operated by Ignited Games, Inc., in North America, and lacks the more advanced features and complexities that the more active and feature-rich Korean version has. However, it is still popular; DarkEden combines multiple genres: classic Asian fantasy, medieval fantasy, and science fiction. Players can choose to be either a Vampire or a Slayer; each race has different gameplay, strengths and weaknesses, different items, classes, growth systems, and reactions to the time of the day. There are 40 skills available for Vampires and 100 different skills for Slayers, with 30 different passive skills according to the rank of the character. The game is oriented as player vs player, as users can be attacked at almost any time by other players.

Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited allows users to play the MMO version of the game that started it all—Dungeons & Dragons invented the role playing game genre. The online version of Dungeons and Dragons takes place in Eberron, where there are threats from monsters and invaders as well as political struggles. The game includes traditional races such as elves and dwarves, as well as new ones not found in other games such as quori. The players begin on the continent of Xen'drick, and players travel throughout urban settings as well as more wild lands. Whether playing solo or with a group, the game will be customized on your party. Dungeons and Dragons Online offers immersive quests across the land, Adventure Areas for users to slay monsters and explore dungeons, and Raids, which are described as complex and highly challenging versions of quests for up to 12 other players to cooperate with you in. The game is absolutely free with no strings attached. Players can earn points depending on their success to spend in the DDO store, with premium content modules, extra character slots, hirelings, potions, unique customizations, and more. The graphics aren't phenomenal, but there is a great online community for this classic RPG, with easy control and realistic combat.

There is a plethora of free online games available on the Web for your gaming fix—award winning, high quality, immersive video games you don't have to spend a single cent on to play. With these online MMORPGs, you can join in a vast online community and play with many others with a constantly changing environment of battles, quests, journeys and more.
