Video Games Online Now: Top Video Game Sites for Free Online Video Games

Working hard or hardly working? We hope it's the former, and if it is, it's high time you reward yourself with a little bit of the latter. From Facebook to Flash Games, and even some old favorites (Frogger ring a bell?), we've got the websites to keep you up when you've got some downtime, and highlighted some games with the most potential to be your new addiction.

Our first destination for hard-to-resist, gaming addiction is the aptly named website AddictingGames.com. This site is updated constantly, so there is never EVER a shortage of new games. It's no wonder the site has gotten over a million likes on Facebook. There's even an option for fans of the site to submit new games, and if approved, it will be shown and played by millions of online gamers around the world. The plethora of games on this site is endless. There are games that feature familiar faces like the Ninja Turtles, Sponge Bob, and Mario, or games that feature bizarre out-of-this world characters, like a running piece of toast. No matter what mood you're in, Addicting Games has a game for that. Adventure, Action, Puzzle, Shooter, Sports, RPG, Trivia, Classic Arcade, and even a category for “Funny” Games, you name it, Addicting Games has got it. Speaking of funny, a fan favorite is the classic game City Jumper.

City Jumper is deceptively simple, left arrow small jump, right arrow long jump. The object is to run through various cityscapes, jumping over buildings and famous landmarks. Touch any building and you start the level over. Sounds easy enough, right? Wrong! Soon you'll find yourself having to dodge even taller buildings, small houses placed at awkward intervals, clouds and lightning, and even a grumpy homeless man pushing a humongous shopping cart. Trying this game just once is impossible. Once you pop, the fun doesn't stop and you'll see why it belongs in the wondrous pantheon of Addicting Games.

The next site on our list is so prevalent in the media, it almost needs no mention: Facebook. The reason it deserves mentioning is that not many people appreciate its worth as a valid website for great games. Facebook has taken the concept of social media to a whole new level by implementing interactive games on its website.  Social media is no longer just about posting what you had for breakfast. It's about connecting with people and interacting with gamers in real time. Since all the data is saved online, all high scores and story progressions will pop up as soon as you sign back on, so you can continue to compete with your friends, and even with people all around the world. Notable online Facebook Games include Farmville, Typing Maniac, Bejeweled and Gardens of Time, but the one that has gotten millions of not only Facebook fans giddy, but gamers in general, is Tetris Battle.

Tetris Battle is the classic Russian puzzle game on steroids. There are many different solo and multiplayer game modes, but our personal favorite is the 2 Player and 6 Player 2-Minute Battles. Make combos and tetrises to stack lines in your opponents field, and try to knock them out as many times as you can before time runs out. A ranking system not only shows the world how good you are, but also pairs you with people on the same skill level, so there's never a dull moment. Each win earns you stars towards achieving a higher ranking, while each loss makes you lose stars to potentially bump back down to a lower level. This makes for great incentive to keep playing as you watch your rank go from Amateur status to “GOD OF TETRIS.” A battery meter at the top of the screen limits your amount of play per day, but as you continue to play each day, your battery life can increase, giving you yet another reason to spend hours playing Tetris. As if the game wasn't addicting enough already, the ability to challenge your friends to a duel as soon as they sign on, the option to change puzzle pieces and backgrounds, and the cool feature of saving replays of all your favorite showdowns provides endless fun for all. Tetris Battle is a prime example of turning an old school game and making it brand new.

Speaking of old school, our final stop on the online gaming train is ClassicGamesArcade.com. For gamers who aren't all too impressed by the new-fangled graphics and intricacies of modern day gameplay, this stroll down memory lane of retro games will be a slice of heaven. Classic Games Arcade features a host of old school games, be it arcade or 8-bit classics, presented either in its purest form or in a refreshed flash design to showcase a whole new way to play. Donkey Kong, Street Fighter 2, Mega Man, Frogger, Space Invader, Final Fight and much more are all lined up and ready to play, and you don't even have to drop a single quarter. The featured game from this site is the New Pac Man FLASH. It plays exactly like the arcade, but the flash graphics give it a modern cartoon feel that makes it a pleasure to play for all ages. Of course, if you'd rather play it just like you remembered it in the golden age of 80's arcade gaming, Classic Games Arcade has that as well.

Online gaming has allowed us all the chance to enjoy games past, present, and future without having to spend a single dime. It not only allows for hours of entertainment, but also keeps you connected with gamers worldwide. With sites like Addicting Games, Facebook, and Classic Games Arcade, you can have just as much fun if not more than anyone with a 500-dollar console.

Addicting Games helped me survive college. When i had downtime it was all about City Jumper, the Escape series and the Helicopter Game. Bubble Bobble got me through the day too. After you mentioned Addicting games in the this article went back and it's grown so much from when i used to play about four years ago. Found out they got a free app too. So funny finding out other people played City Jumper.
